About our Special Guest:
Prior to obtaining a certificate for Business and Computer Application Specialist, Tonique Ayler earned an Associate of Applied Science Degree and now serves as Breaking Free’s Housing Program Manager. Being a mother of three, she understands the dynamics of building a strong family and the secondary trauma that can often immobilize survivors and their families; by understanding these dynamics, is what allows Tonique to provide ongoing supportive advocacy and direct services with compassion for the clients. Shortly after escaping “the life” of her trafficker and being incarcerated, Tonique became involved with Breaking Free as a victim of sexual exploitation but graduated the Sisters of Survival support group as a leader. After completing Speaker’s Bureau, she later shared her experiences of “the life” in prostitution at what is now called “Men’s Breaking Free”. Through her own healing process, she has engaged in many lectures, seminars, and public speaking events, in addition to radio station presentations, mini documentaries and a series of columns for newspapers; sharing her testimony Tonique breaks down the dynamics of sex trafficking with Law Enforcement, Religious High Schools, Churches, Universities, Medical Facilities, Treatment Centers, and other survivors. With Tonique’s well-rounded experience, knowledge, and talent, she facilitates the Sisters of Survival group. Providing ongoing advocacy and direct services with compassion for clients, Tonique is very effective in her role in our Permanent Supportive Housing Program as she networks with other agencies to assist the families as needed.
